چکیده
Received 10 January 2011 Revised 26 January 2011 Accepted 28 January 2011 Early online 29 January 2011 Print 31 January 2011 Fluoride is known to cross the blood-brain barrier and alter the structure and function of neural tissue. There are few authoritative reports on neurodegenerative changes in hippocampus, neocortex, cerebellum, spinal cord and sciatic nerve in fluoride intoxication. We report the alterations in the structure of neuronal tissue after chronic administration of sodium fluoride (for 60days) to rats. Twelve male Wistar rats were divided equally into two groups: one group received 20 ppm of sodium fluoride (NaF) and the other group (which served as a control) received tap water for 60days.

Ultrastructural Changes in Spinal Motoneurons and Locomotor Functional Study after Sciatic Nerve Repair in Conduit Tube
Objective(s) Motor deficit and neuron degeneration is seen after nerve transection. The aim of this study is to determine whether a poled polyvinelidene fluoride (PVDF) tube with other supportive strategies can protect the neuronal morphology and motor function after sciatic nerve transaction in rats. Materials and Methods After transection of the left sciatic nerve in 60 male Wistar rats (2...
متن کاملNeuroprotective Effects of Sodium Meta Silicate on Motoneurons of Spinal Cord Ventral Horn In Rats Underwent to Compressived Injury of Sciatic Nerve
Purpose: It has been shown that sodium meta silicate has an antioxidant effects and suppress the production of oxidative enzymes. Since the inflammation phenomena and increase the level of free radicals mostly take part in post-injury neuronal degeneration, the purpose of the present research was to examine weather the antioxidant property of sodium meta silicate can prevent the central degener...
متن کاملMorphological changes of lumbar spinal neurons after sciatic nerve transection in neonate rats
Axotomy of the sciatic nerve have been documented to cause neuronal loss, especially in newborn rats. Few works have focused on time course of neuronal loss and the type of cell death, which occurs after axotomy. Forty rat pups were anesthetized by hypothermia and the right sciatic nerve transected at five days of their age and the left side was used as control. The operated animals were sacrif...
متن کاملP35: Effect of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Agrimonia eupatoria on Alpha Motoneurons Regeneration of Anterior Spinal Cord after Compression of Sciatic Nerve in Rat
If nerve cells damaged, they cannot be restored by themselves. Agrimonia eupatoria has been used in traditional medicine to heal the wounds and scratch, and dry the scars. Therefore, this herb probably contains compounds with restorative properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate the restorative effect of Agrimonia eupatoria on alpha motor neurons of anterior spinal cord. In this ...
